”Urpo Leppänen on kuollut
Sain suru-uutisen hyvän ystäväni Urpo Leppäsen kuolemasta tänä aamuna.
Urpo Leppänen oli merkittävä poliitikko sekä SMP:ssä että Perussuomalaisissa. Hän oli yksi neljästä Perussuomalaisen puolueen perustajajäsenestä. Puolueemme nimi on hänen keksimänsä ja Raimo Vistbackan valitsema.
Opin häneltä tavattoman paljon.
Liittyessäni SMP:n jäseneksi 16-vuotiaana vuonna 1979 Urpo Leppänen oli SMP:n puoluesihteeri ja vasta valittu kansanedustaja.
Leppänen oli minulle todellinen puoluesihteeri. Puoluesihteerin työ on raskas ja epäkiitollinen. Siinä Leppänen oli parhaimmillaan. Hän osasi puolue- ja vaalityön organisoinnin. Olen häneltä saamastani opista kiitollinen.
Perussuomalaisessa puolueessa Urpo oli merkittävä taustavaikuttaja ja idealinko. Kuuntelin ja huomioin hänen näkemyksensä tarkasti. Viime EU-vaalien strategia ja vaaliliitto kristillisten kanssa oli myös Urpo Leppäsen toive.
Viimeisinä vuosina hän lähetti minulle lukuisia käsinkirjoitettuja kirjeitä. Niistä huokui henkilökohtaisuus.
Viimeinen kirje tuli noin kolme viikkoa sitten.
Viimeisessä Perussuomalaisessa lehdessä Urpo Leppänen kertoi vaikeasta sairaudestaan ja kehotti auttamaan vaikeuksissa olevia ja sairaita ihmisiä. Hän oli kiinni politiikassa, yhdessä rakkaudessaan, loppuun asti.
Kaipaan hyvää ystävääni. Elän yhteistä surua Urpon omaisten ja ystävien kanssa.
Päällimmäisenä on kuitenkin kiitollisuus. Sain tuntea Urpo Leppäsen, ihmisen, joka uskalsi elää, taistella, onnistua, tehdä virheitä ja pyytää anteeksi.

Ei sanallakaan siitä, että Lex-Leppänen, joka velvoitti kunnat työllistämään kaikki nuoret, romutettiin kokoomuslaisen työministerin, Ilkka Kanervan, ja koko silloisen hallituksen tahdosta.
Ei siitä, että kunnat tietoisesti rikkoivat lakia eivätkä työllistäneet pyydettäessäkään.
Ei siitä, että ministeri julkisesti televisiossa hyväksyi lain rikkomisen ja totesi kyynisesti ja lakoonisesti, että lakia on muutettava.
Ei siitä, että jo silloin riittävän monet varoittivat ”joutilaan luokan” syntymisen vaaroista.
Nyt sitten syyllistetään nuoret! Hurskastelua!

Parhaat politiikan vuotensa Leppänen porskutti 1980-luvulla ministerinä Suomen maaseudun puolueen voittoisassa aallossa, joka kuivui sitten pieneksi vesinoroksi. Noista vuosista ei ole velkojen ja entisten vaimojen lisäksi jäänyt oikein mitään, ei edes henkilökohtaisia ystäviä.

Nykyisessä elämänmennossa Leppästä vaivaa kaikkein eniten ”fundamentalismi” elämän kaikilla aloilla. ”Kaikki asiat otetaan niin yksioikoisesti”, hän valittelee. Fundamentalismin viimeisin räikeä näyte on Veikkauksen toimitusjohtajan Matti Ahteen erottaminen.
”Omituisia menettelytapoja”, Leppänen pohtii. ”Vanha eläkeläisnaisjuristi kutsutaan paikalle – eihän siinä Ahteella ollut minkäänlaisia selviytymisen mahdollisuuksia.”
Vanhana poliitikkona Leppänen ei voi hyväksyä sitä, että ministerinvalan vannoneen miehen sana painaa vähemmän kuin parin naisen.
”Ahteen käyttäytymistapahan on ollut maan tapa”, hän analysoi. ”Hän tuli taputellen eduskuntaan eikä koe tehneensä väärin. Tapahtui kauhea ylireagointi! Eikä prosessia voinut pysäyttää! Demareilla on muutenkin kauhea tapa taputella, siellä naisetkin taputtelevat miehiä, se on sellainen taputtelukulttuuri!”

Urpo Leppänen on kuollut. Timo Soini lausui edellä muistosanat hyvin tuntemalleen henkilölle. Meille muille hän tuli tutuksi televisiosta järkkymättömällä vakaumuksellaan ja terävällä älyllään. Valtamedia haukkui hänet aikoinaan maanrakoon, sekin kuuluu totuudenpuhujalle, mutta edelleen ihailen hänen rohkeuttaan ja sisukkuttaan Lex-Leppäsen ajamisessa. Sitä tarvittaisiin tänäänkin, eikä kaikenlaisia hömppätoimia nuorisotyöttömyyden torjumisessa. Siis työpaikkoja.
